President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama, who leaves office end of March next year after two terms in office, will kick start his farewell meetings in Moshupa on December 14.
Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi has informed Moshupa residents that President Khama would visit the village with the whole Cabinet for the meeting, which will last for two hours from 9am to 11am.
Mr Masisi, also Member of Parliament for Moshupa/ Manyana, described President Khama’s gesture as an honour to the constituents of Moshupa/Manyana, thus implored them to attend the meeting in large numbers, bring the latter presents and wish him the best of luck on retirement.
Mr Masisi also encouraged Batswana to appreciate President Khama for respecting the constitution and subsequently facilitating a smooth power transfer process to enable him to take the reins.
Mr Masisi argued that the certainty in power transfer provided by such leaders as President Khama, his predecessors and the institutions they created, had paved way for peace and political stability to reign and for the economy to burgeon and be enjoyed by all Batswana since independence.
On other issues, Mr Masisi informed Moshupa residents that areas such as Diboto, Sedudu, New Mogaung and Mmaseetsele would be electrified before end of March next year through the Economic Stimulus Package.
He explained that government was of the view that power supply was a surefire enabler for job creation and economic growth.
Meanwhile, Botswana Power Corporation chief executive officer, Dr Stephan Fisher confirmed in an interview after the meeting that electricity would be reticulated to some areas around Moshupa under the rural electrification project by end of March 2018.
He said 50 per cent of the village had already been connected to the national power grid, which would make it easy for the company to meet the target.
He said they had expanded the project scope from 24 to 60 villages with a budget of P80 million under ESP.
He said only citizen-owned companies would be engaged.BOPA
