Delayed utilisation of facility worrisome

Delayed occupation of Mafenyatlala Service Hall in Molepolole by different government departments is said to be worrisome.
The concern was raised by the Rural Extension Coordinating Council (RECC) during their recent visit to the centre to appreciate its success and challenges recently.
Mafenyatla Service Hall was an initiative by Kweneng District Council with the intention to offer improved services from a central point in an effort to address inefficiency in provision of services.
The P9 million facility was constructed with the intention to improve efficiency on service provision.
However, it was discovered during the visit that the centre, which started operating some two years ago with a capacity to house 32 offices, was under-utilised, operating with only seven departments mainly from Kweneng District Council.
Rural Development Council secretary Mr Stanley Makosha said the decision to visit the facility with the committee comprising of directors from government departments was to appreciate and map a way forward on influencing action on how the centre could be fully operational.
The team made emphasis on the need to ensure recruitment of the centre coordinator at a decision-making level for it to take off.
The facility, the first of its kind according to Mr Makosha, was positioned at Mafenyatlala Mall, basically to provide services from a central point and manned by front officers with the sole reason to improve efficiency.
The RECC said there was need for a business model that would provide guidance on the best method of services to be provided by departments across government sectors.
Meanwhile, the coordinator of Strategy Management, Mr Wazha Tema promised to work towards bringing in a business model aimed at providing guidance on procedures of business needed, services to be provided as well as guidelines on turnaround time.
The aim, he said was to come up with a model that will be finally submitted to Rural Development Council for approval before it could be put into practice.
Dr Letlhogile Modisa from the Department of Animal Health and Production commended the idea behind the project, adding that if functioning well, it would reduce the burden on government departments.
Dr Modisa challenged responsible department to make use of the hall to increase efficiency and timely delivery of services.
Kweneng District deputy council secretary, Mr Tsholofelo Molaodi expressed gratitude towards the team’s visit with the hope that it would help with an operational model that would guide relevant department to expedite processes to enable the community to benefit from the facility. ENDS
