Suping not planned for power

22 Nov 2017

Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, Advocate Sadique Kebonang says Suping has not yet been selected for the ongoing 2017/18 village electrification project.

Answering a question from Member of Parliament for Gaborone North, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa, Advocate Kebonang said the village therefore would be considered for electrification alongside others in the upcoming financial years.

He further indicated that the budget would be determined at the appropriate time, once the village had been selected for electrification.

He noted that a number of selected villages per year depended on the rural electrification budget.

Meanwhile, Advocate Kebonang said on an annual basis, government identifies villages for electrification based on the number of households assessed to be able to connect to the network.

MP Nkaigwa had asked the minister if there were any plans to connect Suping in the Molepolole North constituency to the Botswana Power Corporation grid and if so when would the project be undertaken and how much was budgeted for such a project. ENDS
