Sowa district commissioner not for NataGweta - Kwerepe
22 Nov 2017
Parliament has been informed that it is not possible for the deputy district commissioner stationed in Sowa Township to cover the Nata/Gweta constituency because it is beyond his administrative jurisdiction.
Answering a question in Parliament from the MP for Nata/Gweta, Mr Polson Majaga, Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Thato Kwerepe said there was a statutory administrative arrangement, which stipulates that a district commissioner or his deputy had administrative jurisdiction over places established as township, town, city, sub district and district.
He noted that in this regard, Sowa Township was established by the Township Declaration Act of 1990, which specifies the geographical demarcation of the township and it does not include the Nata/Gweta constituency.
Minister Kwerepe noted that Sowa Township qualifies to had a deputy district commissioner in accordance with the administrative arrangement.
Nata/Gweta constituency is covered by Tutume Sub-district.
Mr Majaga had asked the minister whether he would consider assigning the Sowa deputy district commissioner to cover the Nata/Gweta constituency instead of Sowa Town only. ENDS
