Unregistered churches worry council chief
22 Nov 2017
North West District Council chairperson, Mr Duncan Enga has raised concern over mushrooming of unregistered churches in the area.
He said they found it difficult to track and take action against those churches because they did not have a solid foundation, adding some just collapsed.
Mr Enga raised the concern during a fund raising activity organised by Eloyi Christian Church, noting that such unregistered churches promoted social ills amongst young people.
He cautioned members of the community to be vigilant, saying some of the churches robbed poor people of their hard earned cash and disappear.
The council chairperson said drug abuse in schools was disturbing and urged churches to partner with government to address such ills.
Through prayers, he said they could manage to address the situation and mould children into responsible citizens.
Assistant district commissioner, Mr Ramogaupi Gaborekwe appreciated the role played by Ministers Fraternal in community activities, noting that every time they honoured invitations to take part in their activities.
He also appreciated the good work done by churches in addressing social ills and challenges faced by families.
He said the district commissioner’s office was overwhelmed by issues of family matters and commended Eloyi for taking the lead in addressing such issues.
Mr Gaborokwe said churches had reduced the burden from his office and the kgotla and urged other churches to join hands in addressing such challenges.
In addition, he emphasised the need for partnership in moulding youngsters whom he said were future leaders.
Furthermore, he said government understood well that to maintain good governance it needed partnerships, hence a deliberate move to engage churches.
He said government appreciated the importance of the church in driving the country’s development.
He revealed that churches had done well in restoring peace and stability in the country. ENDS
