21 Nov 2017

Botswana Insurance Fund Management (BIFM) has donated toiletries to Motswedi Rehabilitation Centre in Mochudi on November 20.

BIFM chief executive officer, Ms Neo Bogatsu said they were privileged to be donating to the centre as her organisation had programmes aimed at giving back to the community.

She added that it was an honour to their organisation to share the little they had with the centre.

Ms Bogatsu said no one chose to be born with a disability, therefore it was everyone’s responsibility to take care of people living with disabilities and put a smile on their faces.

She further appreciated the marvelous work done by the school management and the staff for working effortlessly to take care of the students and encouraged them to keep up the good work.

Giving an over view of the centre, Ms Salang Rapoo said Motswedi Rehabilitation Centre was a project of the Mother’s Union of the Dutch Reformed Church and it was officially opened in 1995.

Currently, the school has 84 students.

Ms Rapoo further said the school had training programmes such as dressmaking, carpentry, cookery and joinery, which were credited in 2012 by the Botswana Training Authority, which is now the Botswana Qualifications Authority.

She said they empowered students by finding internship for them to put their skills into practice.

Ms Rapoo said they were grateful for the gesture from BIFM and wished them prosperity.

She also encouraged them to continue giving to the community and giving hope to the less privileged children.

Mochudi-based BIFM employee, Ms Pinky Moloi said her organisation always engaged in giving back to the community, hence they saw it fit to donate to the centre and as an opportunity to mingle with the children and the staff.

Ms Moloi said since they knew the school to be a non-profit making organisation, they found it worthy to assist them with toiletries.

Giving a vote of thanks, Councillor for Bophirima, Mr David Motlhatlhedi expressed gratitude to the BIFM team and wished them prosperity.

Mr Motlhatlhedi called upon other companies to be compassionate and give to the centre.

He also challenged some organisations to donate electrical appliances such as television for students to be updated on world events as well as be entertained.

He also applauded the staff for their tireless work and advised them to keep on working with the students in order to give them hope and love, adding that teachers should be given counselling and support for dealing with children with disabilities. ENDS
