No plans to establish Nata Sub-council
21 Nov 2017
Parliament has been told that the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has no plans to establish Nata Sub-council and construction of associated sub-council facilities under the current development plan.
Answering a question in Parliament from the Member of Parliament for Nata/Gweta, Mr Polson Majaga, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Frans Van Der Westhuizen explained that the projects under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) in his ministry comprised the village infrastructure, which deals with provision of internal roads and associated storm water drains in major villages.
Others, he said, were the primary school backlog eradication, which included the construction of classrooms, teacher’s houses and toilet blocks as well as the provision of furniture to customary courts.
With regards to the option of using constituency fund to construct the sub-council chamber, the assistant minister explained that it would not be advisable for the constituency to construct Nata Sub-district chamber because the ministry did not have the budget provision to cover for the establishment costs of the sub-district.
He said in the meantime, it would continue to operate as a service centre.
MP Majaga had asked the minister to state whether he would consider constructing Nata Sub-council chamber under the ESP Phase Two or the constituency fund for the financial year 2018/2019. ENDS
