Coordinator of People Living with Disability in Office of the President, Mr Thomas Motingwa says government recognises people living with disability (PLWD) and the less privileged.
Mr Motingwa said this on Saturday at the Assemblies of God Women’s Wing Ministry Conference in Lobatse. Assemblies of God Women’s Ministry donated a toilet and stand pipe to Ms Bolelang Kamanga of Peleng ward in Lobatse.
Mr Motingwa said the establishment of an office at Office of the President to specifically to address issues affecting people living with disability showed government’s recognition of the PLWD.
He commended President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama for having seen the need to establish such office, saying the office has restored the dignity and living conditions of PLWD saying they were getting assistance from government in form of grants of P400 per month as well as coordinating and facilitating jobs for them.
Furthermore, Mr Motingwa commended the church for having played a role in the development of Botswana, as well as taking heed to the President’s appeal to help those that were disadvantaged.
For his part, deputy mayor of Lobatse Mr Francis Mokwena said the donation by Assemblies of God said poverty is not only being hungry, naked or homeless; but said the poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for was the greatest poverty.
He urged Assemblies of God Women’s Ministry to remember their purpose in life of helping others at all times.
He said the work that they do as Women’s Ministry indicated their growth and prosperity, saying they should have a vision and conviction to achieve that.
Mr Mokwena further said government and civil society as well as the church were concerned about poverty and destitution in the society stating that statistics showed that many people still lived in abject poverty.
Therefore he extended his appreciation to the church for their noble gesture and encouraged them to continue with their efforts.
Receiving her gift, Ms Kamanga said she had suffered for a long time and that she was grateful to God for sending Assemblies of God Women’s Wing Ministry to her rescue.
Ms Kamanga said her family had become the talk of town because of her disability whenever she would send in children to neighbors for assistance especially water. .
