BOSETU hails early childhood education

21 Nov 2017

Introduction of early childhood education or pre-schools in government schools is the right step government has taken towards producing good and learned future leaders, says deputy leader of BOSETU, Mr Mogomotsi Motshegwa.

Giving a keynote address at Pheto Mphoeng Primary School pre-school graduation ceremony in Mmadinare recently, where 90 pupils graduated, Mr Motshegwa said introducing children to pre-education cultivated their ability to think fast and learn accordingly.

He said pre-school also helped children to grasp easily what they were being taught in class.

He said by the time the child entered Standard One, they would be well prepared and groomed to undergo the primary school level education.

He explained that it had been proven that in most instances, children who did not go through the pre-education level and enrolled into the Standard One class, experienced difficulties in grasping what is being taught and found it challenging to cope easily with the pace in class or other children who have been through pre-school.

He said pre-education was important in that it also gave children an opportunity to meet other children, socialise, interact and learn to live along with others.

He also called on parents to play a meaningful role in their children’s education and not leave everything to teachers.

He explained that educating a child began at home and thus parents should play a leading role in their children’s socialisation process and education.

He commended Revised National Policy on Education (Kedikilwe Commission on Education) for recommending that pre-school education be included in government schools.

He said the move gave children, whose parents cannot afford to engage their children in private pre-schools, an opportunity to attend early childhood education. ENDS
