21 Nov 2017

Parliament has been informed that a total of P7.6 million  has been budgeted for the provisional liquidator of the BCL mines.

Responding to a parliamentary question, Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, Advocate Sadique Kebonang said the provisional liquidator’s fees from the date of liquidation (October 2016 to October 2017) was P5.5 million on time costs and P2.1 million on disbursements, totaling to P7.6 million.

The fees, he said were for the provisional liquidator and excluded professional fees for financial, technical and legal fees which were incurred as and when required.

He said P430 million was budgeted for next year from March 1, 2018 to March 1, 2019, but explained that the  budget  was not yet finalised and was undergoing review.

Further, he said the liquidation process would likely be concluded within 3-5 years considering the complexity, environmental and legal issues.

Gaborone North MP, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa had asked the minister to state the amount spent on the liquidation of BCL mines, particularly on the liquidator alone to date, and how much was budgeted for the liquidation exercise as well as when the liquidation process would  be concluded. ENDS
