19 Nov 2017
Tenders for reconstruction of sections between Francistown and Nata road maintenance are at evaluation stage, Parliament has been informed.
Minister of Transport and Communication, Mr Kitso Mokaila said award of tender is planned for the beginning of December 2017.
He said the Nata-Gweta road design and construction is planned for in the next financial year 2017/2018.
Mr Mokaila said he was aware that these roads were damaged by Dineo and that so far, the damaged section of the road between Nata and Zoroga has been reconstructed and this has allowed traffic back on the A3 road.
“My ministry will be more cautious of the effects of the floods by deploying our maintenance teams to monitor the situation during the rainy season,” he said.
He was responding to a question asked by Nata-Gweta MP, Mr Polson Majaga, who had asked the minister when the Francistwon/Nata road maintenance will be carried out and when the construction of Nata/Maun road will take place as promised.
He also asked the minister if he was aware that these roads were damaged by Dineo floods and that to date, nothing has been done.
Mr Majaga also wanted to know what will be done considering that the rainy season will cause further damage.
