Member of Parliament for Gaborone North, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa has described President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama as a spiritual leader who is God fearing.

“For once I need to speak differently about President Khama because he always acknowledges God in most of his speeches,” he said.

Commenting on the State-Of-Nation-Address on Wednesday, he said for President Khama to have assured the nation of his intention to step down at the end of his tenure was a commitment to smooth transition which most leaders in Africa have failed to do as they tended to change their countries’ constitution to prolong their stay in office.

Mr Nkaigwa further said he appreciated President Khama’s contribution to the development of creative industry in the country.

“I am delighted to note that his tireless efforts to promote the creative industry has left a memorable legacy that unearthed some genres in music and arts that we did not know of, while some were becoming extinct,” he said.

He said President Khama’s devotion and interest in the growth of arts and culture industry in the country has earned some of the young people an employment, something he said he should be commended for.On other issues, he called for creation of employment, access roads and portable water for Gaborone North residents.

He also called for improvement of conditions of service for police officers.

He further questioned the rationale used for projects under the Economic Stimulus Programme, which he said only benefitted handful people as compared to its initial mandate of empowering local companies.

He said the programme was a political gimmick as it only benefitted a few companies, defeating the purpose of empowering a large segment of Batswana as it was mentioned during its launch by government. BOPA
