19 Nov 2017
In its effort to come up with strategies aimed at improving healthcare service, Princess Marina Hospital has opened Phodiso Wound Care Clinic to care for patients with wounds.
The development is said to have an advantage of reducing the number of admissions and overcrowding in the hospital.
Speaking at the official opening on Thursday, Princess Marina Hospital clinical director, Dr Monkgogi Goepamang said the establishment of a wound care clinic was achieved through partnership with JP Biochem, a company that spent P750 000 to renovate, furnish and procure medical equipment for the clinic as well as best practices training for the wound care team.
He said since the development of the wound care initiative, Princess Marina Hospital has noticed a reduction in mortality of patients with wounds.
“The effectiveness of wound care solemnly needs multi-disciplinary approach such as wound care nurses (certified and specialised), podiatrists, physicians, auxiliary staff and other health care professionals who will interact to contribute towards improvement of each patient and provide advanced service,” he said.
For her part, director of JP Biochem, Ms Cynthia Rendor said the refurbishment and commissioning of the wound care clinic was an example of their commitment to the development of Botswana and the betterment of the lives of its people.
She said when the decision was made to contribute towards the establishment of a wound care clinic, JP Biochem wanted to do something that not only added value to this nation’s health sector, but also recognised its infrastructural expansion.
“This project has taken more than 12 months from conception to completion and today we are not handing over a bare building, but a building fully equipped and ready to function from day one.
Its outlay has taken into account the requirements of a modern working environment,” she added.
She further noted that JP Biochem pledged to continue the partnership well into the future by way of providing training to staff members who would be providing wound care to patients.
For her part, acting matron of Princess Marina Hospital expressed gratitude to JP Biochem for their ‘noble gesture’.
She said the donation of a wound care clinic would go a long way in helping patients recover.
She advised Princess Marina Hospital staff to ensure that they gave comprehensive health services to Batswana despite the challenges they faced and further urged them to always be courteous and helpful as they discharged their mandate. ENDS
