A local model, Mmina Gaebonwe says the turnout for the yoga classes she hosted for charity over the weekend was ‘great though I expected more people.’
Speaking in an interview, Mmina indicated that she expected the turn out to improve in the next events as she had planned to hold the event until December 15 at the same venue.
“We got 1 big box of clothing items and two boxes of stationery and I hope as we continue with them every Sunday, more donations will come forth,” she said.
She said they had already identified recipient of the donations.
“We have identified Rankoromane School in Otse which provides residential care and schooling for children with special needs and they will receive the donations after we are done with our Christmas charity run,” said Mmina.
On being quizzed on whether this would be an annual thing or a once off, Mmina said for now it is every Sunday until December 15.
Speaking on her thoughts about Batswana’s perception on yoga, she indicated that it was a new form of exercise to Batswana and she thought it was misunderstood a lot.
“There are so many amazing benefits of yoga and hopefully these yoga classes will reveal that to Batswana. Yoga can provide solace for the body, mind and soul,” she said.
On the support they have so far received for the yoga classes, Mmina noted that they were in partnership with DM Creatives brands which donated the location.
“They donated the Global Business Lab 205 and we are hoping to get more sponsorships as companies and business realise the need for yoga and also helping us give back to the people that need these donations most,” said the Maun born model.
Going forward, she said she hopes to use this concept to donate as many books, and art equipment in conjunction with her Art & Creatives workshop and to expose as many young kids as she can to the arts, creativity and literature.
Some of the things yoga has been known to increase include feeling of wellness, positive attitude, energy levels, memory attention, concentration, social skills, self-acceptance, flexibility and strength, improve symptoms of heart failure, enhance cardiac rehabilitation and chronic low back.
“It will infuse in you a sense of security, a new strength, confidence and self-reliance. Yoga brings a message of hope to the forlorn, joy to the depressed, strength to the weak, and knowledge to the ignorant. It kills all sorts of pain, misery and tribulation,” she concluded. BOPA
