UCCSA church houses needy

16 Nov 2017

Member of Parliament for Boteti East Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe has commended members of Orapa United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) for donating a house to the needy.

Mr Lelatisitswe was speaking during a handing over ceremony of a two-roomed house donated to Ms Gohithamang Modumonyane in Letlhakane on Saturday.

He stated that by building the house, the UCCSA youth wing had heeded President Lt Gen.  Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s housing appeal. The donation he said was in line with the government’s mandate to eradicate poverty and restore dignity of the underprivileged members of society.

The ‘significant’ contribution made by churches in Boteti he said was evident and recognised. Furthermore MP Lelatisitswe called on cohabiting members of society in Letlhakane to register for “Re a nyalana” programme to enable them to claim rightful ownership of their property in case another party passed on.

Reverend Pono Gakekgonwe said the church was recognised for adding value to peoples’ lives as much as making an impact on their livelihoods. Rev Gakekgonwe stated that by donating they did not encourage dependency syndrome, reiterating that the objective was to restore dignity of other members of society.

He implored the beneficiaries of the donated house to receive it with gratitude. A church member Ms Oaitse Kgosiejang said the root mandate of church was to serve the community. Ms Kgosiejang stated that the youth in Orapa had an outreach programme and through it they embarked on a sponsored walk to raise funds to construct a house for Ms Modumonyane’s husband who had passed on.

They raised P100 000 and managed to build a house and a fire place for Modumonyane family. Kgosi Tikologo Supang encouraged the beneficiaries to take care of the house, noting the house was donated out of compassion and care. BOPA
