Public officers donate to pensioner

Office of the district commissioner for Mogoditshane/Thamaga Sub-district has donated a water tank, windows and cleaned the yard of a pensioner, Mr Phellwe Masega recently.
Mr Masega, who is a widower lives with his children in the outskirts of Mmokolodi, in a house beaten by age, had its windows broken and with no water connection.
Kweneng district commissioner, Dr Temba Mmusi commended staff for their efforts and noted that the donation would give the family much sought dignity.
He said provision of dignity to other Batswana was one of the 5Ds roadmap laid by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama when he ascended to the presidency in 2008, others being delivery, democracy, discipline and development.
He said water as a core to life, prompted the the office to help the family to attain dignity.
Furthermore, Dr Mmusi said President Khama had also initiated the Presidential Housing Appeal, which had impacted positively on the lives of many people.
Gabane-Mmankgodi MP, Maj. Gen. Pius Mokgware commended office of the district commissioner for leading by example.
“Leadership is all about action, it is about delivery,” he said.
He encouraged staff not to despair in their efforts to contribute meaningfully to changing the lives of the people they serve.
“Your numbers should not despair you, it should not discourage you,” added Maj. Gen. Mokgware.
Gabane-Mmankgodi legislator further said giving was from the heart; hence the donations.
He also encouraged the community to take care of its elderly people and honour them for their services to the country.
He said elders had contributed in making the country what it is today, regardless of what position they held.
Deputy district commissioner, for Mogoditshane/Thamaga Sub-district, Ms Sekgabo Makgosa said Mr Masega was identified by their staff members, who deal with old age pensioners during a routine visit and they liaised with the office to help.
Ms Sekgabo said the office contributed money towards the project, despite that most of the staff were attached under Tirelo Sechaba and national internship programmes.
Although they had initially wanted to buy the family grocery, the Masega family placed water shortage as their top priority, hence the office bought the water tank and replaced windows for the family house.
She said as the rainy season nears, they wanted the family to be secure and enjoy a dignified life.
The beneficiary, Mr Masega, who was born in 1924 thanked staff for their generosity. ENDS
