14 Nov 2017
Government will procure additional teachers houses under the NDP 11, Parliament has been informed.
Responding to a question in Parliament, Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Moiseraele Goya said Letlhakane constituency, which has four secondary schools would benefit from the procurement.
He said currently at Letlhakane Senior Secondary School, 62.2 per cent teachers were accommodated in institutional houses, Motsumi Junior Secondary School has 56.1 per cent, Ditsweletse JSS 51.3 per cent, while Makgadikgadi JSS has 69.1 per cent staff members accommodated at institutional houses.
He noted that at Letlhakane SSS, 19 married officers were sharing accommodation, while two at Motsumi JSS, one at Ditsweletse and 14 at Makgadikgadi JSS has 14 married officers were also sharing accommodation.
Mr Goya said that the sharing by married couples was likely to lead to conflict and may ultimately lead to poor productivity.
MP for Boteti East, Mr Setlhomo Lelatisitswe had asked if the minister was aware of the critical shortage of staff accommodation in Letlhakane Senior Secondary School and all junior secondary schools in the Boteti East Constituency to a point that married officers were forced to share accommodation.
Mr Lelatisitswe also wanted to know the percentage of staff accommodated in the institutional houses in each school and how many married officers shared accommodation in each school.
He also wanted to know how many houses would be built through ESP or National Development Plan in each school mentioned above and when would they be delivered. BOPA
