112 288 enrolled at UB between 2010 2017 - Molao

Assistant Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Mr Fidelis Molao says the cumulative number of students enrolled at the University of Botswana (UB) between 2010 and 2017 is 112 288.
Answering a question in Parliament from MP for Gaborone North, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa, assistant minister explained that the statistics covered enrollments for both undergraduates and post graduate programmes offered by the University of Botswana.
He said the number of students enrolled in the other seven tertiary institutions during the same period was 90 231.
The Minister further explained that the total government expenditure in the seven private tertiary institutions, being tuition fees, from the year 2010 to date was over P2 billion while the total government expenditure incurred at UB during the same period stands at over P5 billion.
He said the amount covered tuition fees amounting to over P1 billion, government subvention for operational costs amounting to over P3 billion and government subvention for capital expenditure amounting to over P368 million.
Mr Nkaigwa had asked the Minister to state the number of students who were enrolled at the University of Botswana in the years 2010 to 2016.
He had also wanted the minister to state the number of students who were enrolled at Botho University, Gaborone Universal College of Law, Ba Isago University, Kalahari Flying Mission School, New Era College, ABM University and Gaborone Institute of Professional Studies between those years.
The Legislator had also wanted the Minister to tell the total government expenditure in the private tertiary institutions from the year 2010 to date as well as expenditure at the University of Botswana for the same period. BOPA
