09 Nov 2017
Kanye Business Council chairperson, Mr Oaitse Moahi says the business community soldiers on despite some challenges.
Mr Moahi was speaking at Kanye Administrative Authority Sub-local Level Consultative Committee meeting in Kanye recently.
He said although government created a conducive environment for businesses to thrive as well as empower local businesses, there was still a room for improvement.
He said government should support and give first priority to local businesses.
He said the council should consider lobbying a proposal for poultry meat and products supply in government schools that would create a platform for locals to make use of the opportunity, and therefore better their lives.
He said normally people in these businesses sell their goods in the back of their cars at the bus rank, while the government could do something to empower them.
However, he said it was not wrong to get goods from other areas, but expressed discomfort that by so doing it would somehow discourage locals.
He shared that they had requested Water Utilities Corporation to provide potable water to businesses and operational spaces.
Mr Moahi said if Water Utilities Corporation could supply these businesses with potable water that, it could reduce the risk of customers contracting diseases water from unknown sources.
He therefore implored government to expedite water and electricity reticulation at Mhiko and Mmapekanyane to make business establishments in those areas easy.
He spoke of the need to maintain internal roads to enable businesses to carryout their day to day errands.
Meanwhile, he advised that police officers should conduct patrols in other business areas in the village, not only around the malls as it is the norm, as there are other areas which also needs to be protected from thieves. ENDS
