Jwaneng council rewards employees

Jwaneng Town Council on June 5 rewarded its staff for good performance.
This was in line with government's initiative of recognising outstanding performance of public officers. Speaking at the ceremony, the town clerk, Mr Dick Kalantle said the aim of the awards was to recognise and encourage good performance in the workplace.
The awards categories included mid-career, silver jubilee, long and distinguished, retirement and department, leader and employee of the year. The department of the year award was given to the public health department, which got 97 per cent.
The leader of the year award was given to Ms Ellen Garetshele of the finance department, who was described as a team player, assertive in her work as well as being confident when advising council on financial issues.
Mr John Jobe of the roads department took the employee of the year award. Commenting on his award, Mr Jobe said communication between supervisors and subordinates was good traits of a leader. He further said a good leader recognised hard work and sets manageable goals.
The secretary of reforms in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Keba Nyathi applauded the council for recognising good performance, noting that recognition encouraged hard work. She praised the recipients of the awards and encouraged them to continue working hard for the development of the council, which would also impact on the objectives of the ministry.
When giving closing remarks, Botswana National Productivity Centre executive director, Mr Baeti Molake said appreciation should be a norm in an organisation and congratulated the council for the ceremony, saying it showed good leadership. ENDS
