Masisi commends employees

Vice President Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi on Tuesday paid a visit to Dibete Weighbridge to recognise and appreciate public officers who out of their own volition went beyond the call of duty in serving members of the public.
Speaking during the visit, Mr Masisi said he was pleased to learn that 12 employees at Dibete Weighbridge together with two other former employees took it upon themselves to maintain part of the road at the Dibete Weighbridge compound.
He said the defects on the national roads were a concern to the nation as they caused disruption to flow of traffic and can generally be a costly inconvenience to road users.
“What is humbling is that you went beyond your call of duty as enumerators, drivers and all those deployed at Dibete Weighbridge. You went the extra mile to perform a service that enhances the safety and comfort of the road users in this portion,” said Mr Masisi.
The Vice President said their action was a clear demonstration of selflessness and commitment to serving their community, stakeholders and the nation at large.
Mr Masisi commended them for living out one of the tenets of the Public Service Ten-Point Agenda, which talked of going an extra mile and exercising flexibility in ensuring access to different services.
He said Dibete Weighbridge employees were ‘truly remarkable’ as they were part of a group of public servants who he was informed were currently constructing a house for a family in Dibete .
“By this initiative, you have heeded His Excellency the President’s call when he assumed office in 2008, that all those who are able to, should contribute to providing shelter for the needy.”
The Vice President said it was necessary to express in person his heartfelt appreciation and to share with the entire nation that ‘there are sectors of people and individuals who are each other’s keepers.’
He noted that, “these are the values which played no small part in building Botswana we know today, from humble beginnings. We must celebrate the efforts of this small family of workers.”
Giving a word of appreciation, the station senior technical officer, Mr Patrick Mosiasiane said he was grateful for the visit by the Vice President .
Mr Mosiasiane cited lack of progression as a challenge faced by some officers and asked that they be assisted as some of them had overstayed in one scale.
Giving vote of thanks, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Kitso Mokaila said they were already looking into what could be done to improve officers’ working conditions.
Minister of Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration Mr Eric Molale also attended the event. ENDS
