Roman Catholic donates to Ukhwi residents

Roman Catholic Church, Gaborone donated food groceries, toiletries, clothes and P10 000 cash to the less privileged residents of Ukhwi in the Kgalagadi North.
Speaking during the hand over ceremony on November 3, Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi lauded Catholics for upholding Vision 2016 pillar of a Compassionate, Just and Caring Nation as well as supporting National Vision 2036 that called for the support of Human and Social Development.
He said the church continued to play a vital role in the society by assisting the needy with food and shelter.
Mr Moipisi, who is the area MP, said Roman Catholic had in the past extended a helping hand to needy families and individuals in the Kgalagadi District and that he commended.
He said the church never turned a blind eye to the poor, but showed them love as the Bible declared ‘Love your neighbour as you love yourself’.
Mr Moipisi said the gifts would restore dignity to the needy and nurture the spirit of love and unity among congregants.
Lutheran Church Pastor Leteane Karoga lauded the Catholics for their benevolence and implored other non-governmental organisations to follow suit and uplift the lives of those in need.
For her part, Village Extension Team (VET) representative, Ms Dorah Lesetlhe also appreciated the gifts and said would add value to the lives of the community members.
Area councillor, Mr Mpolokang Oatlhotse thanked the church for reaching out to the community despite being affiliated to different denominations.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the goods appropriately. ENDS
