Over 69 000 benefit from ICT training

07 Nov 2017

President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama says over 69 000 people have benefited from basic ICT skills training at libraries.

Delivering the State of the Nation Address on November 6, President Khama said libraries were knowledge centres for citizen empowerment and community development.

He noted that about 290 000 people visited libraries per year, and that 74 out of the 105 public libraries had Internet connection.

He also said 612 computers and 70 tablets and kindles were available for the public to access electronic information.

He also praised the Robert and Sara Rothschild Family Foundation for continuing to support the construction of community libraries.

He said the foundation’s 15th library out of a targeted 20 was under construction in Hukuntsi, and that it should be operational by March 2018.

“Government’s contribution in this programme is staffing and other resources,” he added. ENDS
