Police put two past BDF

05 Nov 2017

Police XI collected much needed maximum points when they came from behind to beat fellow disciplined force side, BDF XI at the Molepolole Sports Complex on November 4.

The performance by the Jungle Kings was in defiance of expectations looking at the two teams’ form prior to the game.

Many expected Matebele to walk over Police XI as Letang Kgengwenyane’s side has been doing well of late.

Matebele only solidified the expectations when they struck a lead as early as the 6th minute when Mgcini Sibanda struck a thunderous shot from outside the box, only for Police XI goalkeeper, Kamogelo Mogomotsi to spill it at the feet of the advancing Phenyo Serameng.

Serameng however, only managed to hit the upright, but Rashid Mandawa made amends when he slotted home the rebound.

In fact, throughout the game, Mogomotsi was suspect in the goals as he time and again fumbled with shots from the opponents, and he nearly gave away a similar goal just three minutes before the break when he again, spilled a free kick from the edge of the box from Kelepile Terata, but fortunately for him, Keeagile Kobe who was looking at increasing his lead at the top of the goal charts, got to the ball a few seconds late.

After the goal, BDF XI enjoyed a better possession of the two teams, but it only took less than 15 minutes for the Jungle Kings to equalise through Eliphas Nyambi after receiving a good cross from Thabiso Batang on the left wing.

Nyambi proved to be a thorn on BDF XI defence as he looked threatening every time he was on the ball.

After the break, Police XI came the more confident of the two sides, and started taking the game to Matebele, and their improved play was rewarded in the 58th minute when the diminutive Hendrick Moyo slotted home his fifth goal of the season under minimum pressure from a Letlhogonolo Senwelo cross.

The Jungle Kings then absorbed the pressure throughout the game.

However, they got a scare when Pako Moloi found the net in stoppage time, only for them to get a breather when he was ruled offside.

The result of the game meant that BDF XI dropped to position four behind Miscellaneous, who defeated Gilport Lions by a solitary goal. ENDS
