Residents of Dibete have commended government for programmes and initiatives such as Ipelegeng and the Economic Stimulus Programme which have brought developments in their village.
They said this during a kgotla meeting addressed by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama in Dibete on November 3 where he donated 30 chairs to be used by residents at kgotla gatherings, blankets for the elderly and less privileged, a football kit, balls and 10 Bibles.
In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Lekgatlhane Mabua of Dibete said they were grateful that through ESP, Dibete tribal offices were constructed and fully furnished and a vehicle, adding that the offices uplifted the status of their village.
He said through the poverty eradication programme, Dibete Grass Harvesters cooperation was established and funded with P800 000.
He also applauded government for the Dibete/Machaneng road which he said had reduced the number of accident along the A1 road since it served as an alternative road.
Kgosi Mabua also cited that through the ipelegeng programme they had managed to de-bush and maintain a 10km cordon fence in three months, adding that their intention was to stop at Lephephe village.
He said they were also grateful for the companies which operated from their village which from time to time perform their social responsibility initiatives.
Kgosi Mabua also applauded the cluster policing unit and the village extension teams for having built two houses for the less privileged in their village.
Sharing the sentiments, the Village Development Committee chairperson Mr Keoagile Solomon applauded government for upgrading Dibete Health Post to a clinic through ESP.
Mr Solomon explained that their village was doing well through a number of government initiatives and programmes such as poverty eradication.
However, he expressed dissatisfaction from the services they got from Water Utilities Corporation.
He said Dibete had acute water shortage saying they often go for two to three months without water.
Mr Solomon said that the current village borehole experienced low yield and could not sustain the whole village.
For his part, Mahalapye WUC station manager Mr Moitseemang Monthe admitted that Dibete was experiencing shortage of water.
Mr Monthe noted that they had since sourced P2 million to develop another nearby borehole and said that they would source more funds next financial year to connect the borehole to the village. ENDS
