Trading licences slump - Dibeela

01 Nov 2017

Kanye Administrative Authority (KAA) Sub Council chairperson, Mr Tlhomamo Dibeela says the commercial affairs division has realised a decrease in the issuance of licenses this year compared to the previous year.

Councillor Dibeela said during the ongoing KAA Sub Council meeting on Monday in Kanye that 71 liquor licences, 59 registration certificates and 509 street vendor and hawkers’ certificates were issued this year compared to 112 liquor licenses, 70 registration certificates and 561 street vendor and hawkers certificates issued last year. The decrease, according to Cllr Dibeela was partly due to zero applications tendered as well as termination and suspension of licences.

He said however that the division would conduct a business community workshop to share challenges with a view to root out existing problems.

Furthermore, Mr Dibeela, who is also a councillor for Dilolwe ward informed the meeting that common offences that had been identified under trade included; trading without licences, failure to pay annual licence fees, sale of tainted goods and many others.

“To address these problems, Bye law, Commercial Affairs and Environmental Health officials monitor retailers weekly in addition to monthly joint inspections,” he said.

Cllr Dibeela further informed fellow councillors that cattle entry at Tsatsu Artificial Insemination would take place beginning November, where 400 animals compared to 200 last year are expected to enter the camp. BOPA
