Roads not in bad state - Mokaila

01 Nov 2017

Minister of Transport and Communications, Kitso Mokaila says the roads linking Lesenepole-Selebi Phikwe/Martins Drift, Maunatlala-Mosweu-Mokokwana and Seolwane villages are not paved or tarred, but this does not mean that they are in a bad state.

Answering a question at Ntlo Ya Dikgosi on Tuesday, he said that the roads were being maintained by the Department of Roads and graded once every quarter by in-house teams.

He said the roads were not included in the National Plan 11 for upgrading to bitumen standard due to budgetary constraints.

Kgosi Galeakanye Modise of Tswapong Region had asked the minister if he was aware that the roads in question were in a bad state and if so, when would they be tarred.

Meanwhile, the minister also told the house that his ministry had not included Werda/Hereford road in NDP11 for upgrading to bitumen standard due to budgetary constraints.

He added that future prospects for bituminisation of that road shall be considered for inclusion in NDP12 together with other competing priorities and provided the financial situation improves.

Kgosi David Toto of Kgalagadi South had asked the minister to state when he would tar the Werda/Hereford road as it was frequently used by various government departments, business people and tourists to access the village. BOPA
