Sekoma-Morwamosu road rehabilitation underway

The chairperson of Mabutsane Sub-district council, Mr Kgopolo Stammere-Ramosesane says the design stage of the Sekoma-Morwamosu road has been completed and that the second stage was ongoing.
Addressing the sub-council meeting on Tuesday, Mr Stammere-Ramosesane noted that since the project was design and build, the building had started and was expected to be completed in eight months.
“As you may recall ladies and gentlemen, asphalt overlay, rehabilitation and marking of Sekoma-Morwamosu road is a design and build project. The design stage has been successfully completed and approved.
The building stage has now commenced and the works are expected to be completed by the 16th July 2018,” he said.
He urged stakeholders to provide the necessary support so that the project could be completed on time.
He further appealed to road users to drive with care and to cooperate during the construction period.
On other issues, the chairperson said the maintenance of roads that linked villages in the sub-district was ongoing with most potholes filled.
He noted that the dry grading of most roads had already been done even though there were challenges of machinery.
“Dry grading is routine work that is done continuously but we are always hampered by the performance and maintenance of our machinery. We are therefore at a stage where we need to rigorously advocate for provision of new and suitable equipment and machinery,” he said.
Furthermore, he noted that the gravelling of Sese internal roads was at 20 per cent, saying the delay was caused by the unavailability of machinery and water.
However, he noted that the council managed to source water from Jwaneng, and that the processing of gravel material was at an advanced stage.
He also revealed that there was a plan to reseal internal roads in the whole sub-district.
“We are also planning to start implementation of the resealing projects of approximately 5.9 km bitumen surfaced internal roads in the sub-district through the funding for rain-damaged roads,” he said.
He added that streetlights in Khakhea had been installed and that some of them were operational.
He said it was a great achievement which would go a long way in curbing crime in the village.
He urged Kakhea residents to play their part by desisting from vandalising the lights.
Responding to the chairperson’s address, Khakhea councillor, Ms Kelatlhilwe Paraffin said they were grateful for the streetlights that had been installed in their village.
However, she noted that some parts of the village were left out especially the bus stops where safety should be a priority.
For her part, Maokane councillor, Ms Tshupontle Kgetsi said the council should consider engaging private companies to maintain linkage roads so that it could be done regularly.
She said the Jwaneng-Maokane road was in a bad state since it had been long since it was maintained.
She said it had caused a big inconvenience to residents since they had to use the long route via Mokhomma.
Councillors also expressed concern about local contractors who did not finish projects on time and employed dubious hiring processes, leaving out local people in the lurch. BOPA
