Border post remains temporary
01 Nov 2017
Residents of Mabule and Tshidilamolomo have been urged to use a temporary border situated in Tshidilamolomo to ensure that it becomes a fully- fledged border.
Addressing a kgotla meeting on Monday, the Minister of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs, Mr Edwin Batshu said that the statistics from immigration department showed that only a small number of people were utilising the temporary facility, hence it would remain a temporary structure.
He said that he was aware that each village wanted a border.
However, he noted that it was worthwhile to utilise the temporary border that had been provided.
Minister Batshu said there were some people who continued to cross into South Africa illegally and advised them to use the available border so that the numbers could convince the relevant authorities to find the need to establish a fully-fledged border.
He also advised residents to register births. Residents complained of stock theft, delayed construction of the road, while some claimed that the Tshidilamolomo border was far.
Kgosi Morota Tiro II said that the border was far and pleaded with the minister that in future, a border be established at Mabule.
He said the construction of Mabule road has delayed and this disadvantaged residents.
However, residents assured Mr Batshu that they would start using the border and those without passports were advised to acquire them. BOPA
