Shishana Development Trust underway

01 Nov 2017

Member of Parliament for Ghanzi North, Mr Noah Salakae says the increasing number of street children in Ghanzi Township has necessitated the establishment of a community development trust.

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Ghanzi recently, Mr Salakae told his electorates that after realising the increase, he felt compelled to establish the trust to help children who depend on the streets for survival.

Registration process of this trust is underway; he added noting that ‘Shishana’ Community Development Trust is the proposed name.

He cautioned that street children could end up being a nuisance to the public by engaging in illegitimate deeds, if ignored.

However, he said the trust would not be limited to street children alone, but would also identify interventions to address the needs of children in general, youth and the elderly.

Mr Salakae said the trust would also help to instill the sense of oneness in identifying and addressing the developmental challenges in the constituency.

He called on his constituents to play a role and make sure that the initiative becomes fruitful.

The official launch of the trust, he said is scheduled for December 24 and Member of Parliament for Maun West, Mr Tawana Moremi is expected to officiate at the event.

Also, he said Lobatse based premier league giants, Extension Gunners have voluntarily pledged to arrange or take part in a friendly game that would be organised to raise funds towards the trust.

On other issues, Mr Salakae told his electorates that he would table a motion calling for de-monopolization of BMC during the November Parliament session.

One resident, Mr Modise Madumane raised a concern about BMC monopoly, saying it denies cattle farmers proceeds.

He was also of a view that they should have direct market for their cattle to enjoy more proceeds.

Another resident, Mr Phuthego Motlamme stated that “it is every single Motswana’s wish to see parliament being broadcasted live on Botswana Television.”

Responding to concerns about BMC monopoly, district animal production officer, Mr Eric Mesho said government has engaged Audit and Accounting Firm, KPMG to look into the issue, and currently they are consulting the farmers around the country.

Giving a vote of thanks, Grootlaagte Councillor, Mr Ezekiel Kajuu called on voters to hold their representatives to account.

Also, he welcomed the establishment of the trust saying it would benefit Ghanzi community. BOPA
