Ministry reaches members of the community

Department of Tourism deputy director, Ms Arabang Kanego says they are determined to reach out to members of the community and share whatever they can with them.
Speaking during Mannathoko Junior Secondary School Community Service Day in Serowe on Friday, Ms Kanego said they had extended support to enhance the learning environment.
She said the ministry’s mandate was to conserve and protect the environment and natural resources as well as the promotion of tourism and encouraged the learning curricular to promote environmental education which was education that would empower students to conserve and protect the environment as well as share the knowledge with those they interacted with.
The country she said was endowed with natural resources which the ministry had an obligation to protect and conserve.
Ms Kanego said it was the responsibility of all, young and old to put more effort in safeguarding the environment and encouraged students to develop and live a culture of conservation.
She said their collaboration with the school would go a long way in turning it into more of a green school, whereby other schools could come learn and benchmark from.
Wildlife official, Mr Victor Diloro said the partnership between the Department of Wild life and National Parks Serowe and Mannathoko Junior Secondary School was a result of the Adopt-A-School initiative.
Mr Diloro said they donated a jojo tank to the school and would construct a ramp to assist those living with disability.
The department also donated 42 chairs and nine dining tables.
Mr Diloro said their wish was to enhance the appearance of the school and its learning environment.
He said they wanted to construct a bio-park for species such as tortoises and create bird feeders for the advancement of environmental education at the school. BOPA
