Adopt healthy lifestyles - Dibotelo
30 Oct 2017
Chief Justice, Justice Maruping Dibotelo has urged the Francistown High Court staff to adopt healthy and responsible lifestyle practices.
Speaking at their wellness day on Friday, Justice Dibotelo said their administration was one of the busiest organisations in the country, therefore members of staff were often faced with cases and challenges that tended to affect their health and their general being.
He said hosting a wellness day showed a commitment to invest and encourage the staff to live a healthy lifestyle, noting that the judiciary could not function if its officers were not fit, therefore their well-being was key to the success of their organisation.
The chief justice also said with the advent of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, chronic respiratory disease and diabetes, they needed to take a preventative measure rather than a reactionary one to eradicating these diseases.
Furthermore, he explained that non-communicable diseases were a result of combination of lack of physical activity, unhealthy diets and harmful use of alcohol and tobacco and a general lack of attention to the principles of well-being.
He advised the staff not to make wellness day a one day event but to make it part of their lives so they could take care of their loved ones who depend on them.
For his part, Francistown High Court Judge Justice Lot Moroka said it was essential for the staff to be healthy to provide a quality service to their clients.
He said it was important for the body to be fit and healthy as the workplace was an emotional area thus affecting their longevity at the workplace.
Justice Moroka also advised the staff that “sometimes hard work did not always bring recognition but you should be able to be emotionally mature to deal with situations and live well.” ENDS
