Stakeholders such as Botho University are critical partners and must be commended for participating in building well rounded learners and supporting government efforts of providing education to all, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Basic Education, Ms Grace Muzila has said.

Speaking at the Kubung Primary School prize giving ceremony, which comprised of graduation of pre-school learners and the launch of the new partnership with Botho University recently, she encouraged other stakeholders to take the route that the university had taken and partner with schools for better results and learners future.

“This partnership should not be one sided. Kubung primary should also be in a position of offering something back to Botho University. This is the only way this marriage will last and end up producing expected quality results,” she emphasised.

Ms Muzila also noted that the whole staff of Kubung should utilise what Botho University was offering, which should assist them in many ways and eventually be able to produce good academic results from the pre-school students up to PSLE level.

Launching the partnership with the school, deputy vice chancellor for Botho University, Ms Golekanye Setume said Kubung was chosen after a thorough assessment of all deserving schools in terms of needs for improving grades.

“One of the areas we really need to attend to is improving the school’s library. We intend to provide the school with books for studies by learners. We are also considering proving the school with computers and connecting the internet for staff and the students,” she said.

Ms Setume also noted that there would also be regular visits by Botho staff to review progress on what had been implemented while the students and the staff would have an opportunity to visit Botho University once a term.

The girl students are also to be provided with sanity pads on monthly basis.

The school head, Ms Albertina Legakwa appreciated the new partnership promising to utilise every service Botho had brought to them.

“With everything that will be implemented by Botho we have high hopes that it will contribute to students improving their grades. I encourage every student to work very hard and aim for the stars and surpass the 80 per cent pass rate that has been set by the region.

She also encouraged parents to be involved in their children’s education.

The university also designed and donated a new school logo. ENDS
