Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi has applauded Batswana for their support to the Presidential Housing Appeal ever since it was launched.
Officiating at a house handing over to Mr Gakeletlotle Phiritshwane by the Kweneng Landboard in Motokwe on October 27, Mr Moipisi indicated that such a compassion and caring nature was part of the fabric of Setswana culture, and that it was a good sign to see organisations such as the Kweneng Landboard continuing to uphold it.
He said ever since the housing appeal, a total of 757 houses had been handed to the needy across the country, and that the house handed over to Mr Phiritshwane was the 17th donated by his ministry, an effort he hailed as commendable.
Mr Moipisi said that the gesture by the Kweneng Landboard was in line with the pillar of Vision 2036 of having a good human and social development.
Mr Moipisi also appreciated all the stakeholders that contributed towards the realisation of the house, and encouraged other good Samaritans to be equally inspired.
For his part, the Chairperson of Kweneng Landboard, Mr Moemedi Babitseng said the idea of helping, Mr Phiritshwane came after the Motokwe Sub Landboard realised his hardships as his plot was just across the sub landboard offices.
“His house was just a weak structure that could not shelter him during harsh weather, but the owner did not want to move in with his sisters, so the sub landboard staff mooted the idea of assisting him and contacted the main landboard for assistance,” he said.
Mr Babitseng applauded the teamwork between staff members across the landboards and their determination for seeing the house completed.
For his part, Kgosi Aobakwe Molaole also indicated that the gesture by the Kweneng Landboard indicated true love as advocated for by the bible.
He said that the nation has to note that people are not equally blessed in life and therefore should always be ready and willing to assist those in need.
The area Member of Parliament, Mr Ngaka Ngaka said that as the custodian of land rights, the Kweneng Landboard has set an example that residential plots have to be developed.
“This is a typical example of the phrase ‘action speaks louder than words’,” he said.
Mr Ngaka also appealed to the nation to make it a habit of assisting those in need, even if they are not necessarily related to them.
He said the Takatokwane Constituency was one of the hardest hit by poverty and that any little assistance would be appreciated.
Giving a word of appreciation, one of the relatives, Mr Gaofetwe Bajaki appreciated the Kweneng Landboard for restoring Mr Phiritshwane’s dignity as he said he was a hard worker and farmer who was respected before he was struck by illness. ENDS
