Psychologist to help Ngwaketse South schools

07 Jul 2013

The Member of Parliament for Ngwaketse South, Mr Peter Siele says he is in the process of engaging a psychologist for schools in his area with the view to address poor performance.

Mr Siele revealed this during a Parent and Teacher Association meeting held at Lejwaneng Primary School recently.

The school had a 32 per cent pass in the Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) last year.

The psychologist is scheduled to begin with Lejwaneng, Magoriapitse, Pitseng and Sesung primary schols before moving to other schools in the constituency.

Mr Siele, who is also Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, expressed optimism that the move would help the students appreciate the importance of education in their lives.

Meanwhile, he disclosed that he spent over P30 000 annually on a drive to recognise and reward students who have excelled in examinations amongst the 24 schools in his constituency to motivate performance.

Mr Siele explained that the purpose of initiative was to promote healthy competition amongst students in his area and improve the results.

He also urged the constituents to develop  an interest in the education and welfare of their children, adding that teachers alone will not get them far enough.

“Results come from the partnership between parents and teachers,” he stressed.

For his part, Mr Ishmael Khan applauded Minister Siele for showing concern for the welfare of their children and finding practical ways to address poor performance. ENDS
