Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) sports development officer, Healer Modiradilo says Re Ba Bona Ha sports programme is living to its objectives.

Modiradilo said this in an interview at a Re Ba Bona Ha boxing training camp in Lobatse over the weekend.

A skills development programme established to introduce sport to children, Modiradilo said Re Ba Bona Ha also aimed to encourage youth in school and out of school to be involved in sport.

As a boxing trainer, he said he had identified many young aspiring boxers through the Re Ba Bona Ha programme some of whom participated in big tournaments locally, regionally and globally.

He said he had realised that Lobatse youth were interested in boxing and were talented in the sport.

He said a youth from Lobatse, Otukile Mahomed was identified through Re Ba Bona Ha and had done well in various tournaments.

In September this year, he participated at the World Championships in Germany after qualifying with a silver medal at the Africa Championships in Congo in May.

He also won gold at the Gaborone 2014 Africa Youth Games.

That and many other achievements, Modiradilo said proved that the programme was important.

He said they would be identifying boxers for under 20 Africa Sports Council Region 5 and Africa Youth Games during the training camp.

Those identified he said would be trained and prepared at a school holiday camp to get them ready for the tournaments.

He said they would be extending boxing centres to other areas in the country with Ghanzi being next and to be launched end of October.

Lobatse boxing training camp attracted schools from Moshupa (Diratsagae junior school), Jwaneng (Kgosimpe junior school), and Seepapitso senior school as well as Lobatse schools and out of school youth who are under 20 years. ENDS
