Repeating benefits pupils

The repetition of classes by pupils at primary school has proven to have a positive impact on their academic performance.
This was demonstrated by a Standard Seven pupil during the Zoroga Primary School farewell party recently. Moikotlhai Obeilwe, who repeated classes, was happy that he managed to pass. He commended the school head for not loosing faith in him.
He said he did not well in lower classes and was sent back to redo them to improve his performance.
Zoroga social worker, Ms Bonny Ogotseng said the main purpose of the event was to motivate and teach pupils about challenges and how to overcome them.
She urged pupils to be independent and to be responsible for every decision they make as they were going to junior secondary school.
She noted that they would spend most of their time with other pupils and that they may influence each other positively or negatively. Ms Ogotseng advised parents to establish strong bonds with their children, saying charity begins at home.
She said they should give them love and understand them as well as interact with their teachers and friends so that when they have problems it would be easy for them to open up and seek help.
For his part, Kgosi Thomas Modiro of Zoroga said for pupils to excel in their education, parents and teachers should work together.
“Children do what their parents do, so I encourage parents to display good behaviour in the presence of their children,” he advised.
Kgosi Modiro said as pupils were going to interact with different characters, they should only be friends with their books.
He warned pupils against the use of drugs and other substances.
“Education is your own inheritance and no one can take it from you, and poverty is not something that you can inherit,” he said.ENDS
