Basic education strategy underway

19 Oct 2017

Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele says government has taken a bold decision to re-visit educational foundation that will include education with production concept.

Speaking at a joint prize giving ceremony of the two Morwa village primary schools of Ramogotsi and Our Lady of Carmel Morwa Community Hall Wednesday, Mr Makgalemele said through the new strategy, students would be trained and nurtured within their competencies and line of interest.

The concept, he said was contained in the ministry’s new strategy dubbed, Basic Education Training Sector Strategic Plan (ETSSP) that would ensure that every learner fitted within the education system along with the potential one might carry in a certain field.

He said there was evidence that government was doing extremely well towards investing on education by ensuring accessibility and literacy together with infrastructural development as evidenced in the NDP 10 and 11.

He emphasised the need for substantial leap into the next level towards ensuring sustainable partnership.

“Through the Education Hub, we seen increasing private sector investment in education and we now also need to see these investments trickling even further down to the small communities and changing lives,” he said.

He further expressed gratitude that the call to support government initiatives towards improved education was now falling in the right ears, citing the event as a clear demonstration of partnership between individuals and business enterprises to support educational initiatives in communities within which they operated.

He congratulated efforts by the two schools’ Almuni as well as Bela Bela Quarries for their valuable input towards supporting the two schools over the years.

“I commend you in that spirit and sense of responsibility towards nurturing the future leaders of this country,” he said.

Government,  he said was humbled by the spirit of senselessness since education provision was an expensive and rigorous exercise that required input of all.

Good results, he said did not come by chance, but an end product of well coordinated efforts by various stakeholders, visionary leadership, united parents and teachers associations among others.

He said all these collaborated effort were a necessary ingredient for a successful education recipe.

He further emphasised that good academic results were linked to good health as it had been proven that good physical and mental health was necessary for a productive human body.

Mr Makgalemele, also MP for Shoshong encouraged all to partake in health and wellness initiatives.

Kgatleng East principal education officer, Ms Tebogo Masike praised the two schools for their commendable efforts in working towards improved results, adding that it was through individual effort and commitment that the two had come together to celebrate their success.

She was optimistic that schools excellence should be considered a great achievement since it contributed towards poverty reduction because it was through education that families got empowered.

Kgosi Eric Mooketsi of Morwa, challenged students to desist from behaviour that might destruct them from the purpose of learning and concentrating on building their future.

The overall best students and best teacher awards went to Oratile Mogotsi and Mr Baboloki Mosimanewaphiri of Our Lady of Carmel Primary school, which outdid over 36 primary schools in Kgatleng District with a 95 per cent ABC pass mark from 2016 Primary School Leaving Examination.
