The local network provider, be Mobile has donated over P100 000 to five charitable organisations in Palapye.

The five organisations, which received P20 000 each on July 3 were House of Hope, Kopano Rehabilitation Foundation, Itsoseng Banana, Palapye umbrella VDC and Serowe based SOS. be Mobile raised the money through a jazz festival held in Palapye in March this year.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Botswana Telecommunications Corporation chief operating officer, Mr Anthony Masunga said it was be Mobile’s mandate to work hand in hand with the general public and give back to the community as a way of exercising their corporate social responsibility.

He said be Mobile found it important to donate to the organisations as they played critical roles in their communities, adding that the money would help them in the running of their day to day activities to achieve their goals and in overcoming financial constraints they faced.

Mr Masunga urged Batswana to continue showing their support towards be Mobile, as the network provider existed to transform the lives of Batswana. Representatives from the five organisations expressed their gratitude for the donation.

Mrs Leokana Bogatsu of Kopano Rehabilitation foundation said her organisation, which offered special education to people living with disability, had not been able to carry out its mandate due to financial constraints.

She said the money would be channeled towards purchasing teaching and learning materials and paying utilities. Palapye Umbrella VDC chairperson, Ms Gloria Ketshogileng said her committee had not undertaken any community development project for the past two years due to financial constraints.

She expressed gratitude for the donation saying that the money would be used to buy resources for the Palapye community hall which was refurbished by Morupule mine late last year while part of the money would be shared among the village wards to assist them undertake pending community projects. ENDS
