Minister of Health and Wellness Ms Dorcas Makgato has urged Sefhare Junior Secondary School students to work hard to achieve their goals.
Officiating at the school’s prize giving ceremony on Friday, Ms Makgato said it was upon students to decide on their future but not rely on parents to curve their path.
“Whether your parents are supporting you or not the power lies in you to be what you want to become in future,” she said.
Ms Makgato also MP for Sefhare/Ramokgonami urged students to have goals, be determined, responsible and work hard.
She urged them not to allow peer pressure to succumb to their lives adding “you must be strong and develop thick skin,” she said.
She added that charity begins at home and as such students should respect their parents and teachers.
“All you need is to listen to your parents and guardians. Do things that will reflect that you are still children not adults,” she said.
She said students should not engage in sexual relationships or do drugs and alcohol because they were still young.
She warned them that if they engaged in sexual relationships they will contract HIV/AIDS and fall pregnant at a tender age.
Ms Makgato informed the students that their time to engage in sexual relationships will come hence should only focus on their education.
Furthermore she raised concerns over parents who sold drugs to students, saying it was disheartening to see parents destroying the future generation.
For his part, Parents Teachers Association chairperson Mr Tekolo Osego requested for the construction of teachers’ accommodation through the constituency development fund, adding that one house per financial year will make a big difference.
He also requested Ms Makgato to help the school find individuals and companies to adopt Sefhare CJSS. BOPA
