Yarona FM Cycle Challenge October 15

The B4H BW Cycling Academy together with Yarona FM will host the 106.6 Yarona FM Cycle Challenge October 15.

Speaking during a press conference on October 11 at Virgin Active gym, Yarona FM station manager, Kelly Ramputswa said the radio station was embarking on the challenge in order to promote health and fitness among individuals in Botswana.

She said the race will be categorised into two distances of 106km and the 60km.

For his part, B4H BW Cycling Academy representative, David Lebalelo said their duty as a cycling Academy was to help Yarona FM in making sure the race was done well.

He said they had decided to take cycling to the people by making the new route pass through the city.

“This time around, the route is different as it passes through the middle of the city. We are not going to close the roads, but rather we are going to share them with other users,” he said.

 He said they had roped in about 150 marshals in order to ensure the safety of cyclists and other road users.

 For her part, Kwese Free Sport representative, Goabaone Kgosana said as a new broadcaster in Botswana they wanted to elevate and give cycling an opportunity since it was also a new sporting code in Botswana.

“Cycling is a new sporting code. Many people are into football and we don’t only want to elevate football, but other sporting codes as well and cycling for us is a unique opportunity.”

 The race will start from Fairgrounds Mall heading towards Block 9 cycle, north towards Sebele and onwards to Malotwane.From Malotwane, the cyclists will turn left at Airport junction traffic lights towards GPH and will follow UB road back to Fairgrounds Mall. BOPA
