Molefe beats rivals to crown

Botswana Cycling Association (BCA) spokesperson, Kagiso Potongwane says their aim is not only to encourage and promote but to continue developing cycling as a sport in Botswana.

Potongwane said this after the association’s  annual Mountain Bike (MTB) national championships held at the old dumping site at the Riverwalk over the weekend.

Road biker, Gontse Molefe capped a fine weekend with an emphatic victory in the elite men’s category clocking a time of 01:46:50 ahead of his closest rival Thato Madimabe to win P600, a trophy and gold medal.

Madimabe, in second position after finishing the race in 01:49.10 walked away with P500 and a silver medal.

Thomas Miekle was third in a time of 01:59:46 winning himself P300 and a bronze medal.

The elite men’s category featured six laps, with each covering a distance of seven kilometres.

As for the elite women’s category, Comine Bruwer finished in first position with a time of 01:14:16 and Gobona Mantle got second position clocking a time of 01:27:44 and they did three laps.

They each won themselves P300, a trophy and gold medal and P250 with a silver medal respectively.

Bakang Ebudikwe was the only competitor in the under 23 and clocked a time of 01:08:12, having also done three laps.

In the youth category, which were all boys, Lebopo Mompe got position one with a time of 01:04:34.

Kopano Kgosibodiba finished second in a time of 01:04:36 while Letlamoreng Ikaneng rounded off the top three with a time of 01:05:01.

The junior category saw Arnold Kokwane clinching first position with a time of 01:15:39 ahead of Mohammed Noor who registered 01:33:27.

On the other hand, Hakim Allie came in position three with a time of 01:52:02 and they all competed in a four-lap time trial. ENDS
