Work cooperatively towards developments

03 Oct 2017

Member of Parliament for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe has implored residents of Mosu to cooperate in implementing developments in Boteti Sub-district.

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Mosu recently, Mr Lelatisitswe warned residents against being misled by politicians, especially on development issues.

He said the decision to install street lights in Letlhakane was considered since that would benefit the Sub-district.

He said there were misconceptions on how the Constituency Development Fund would be utilised, saying communities were requested to make a wish list on projects to be undertaken, and that the Ministry of Local Government would come up with guidelines.

He said projects should not include those covered in the District Development Plan 8 and National Development Plan 11.

However, he said a decision was made that the fund should be used to install street lights in Letlhakane by Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation.

He said the project would reduce crime rate in Letlhakane which involved rape incidences.

Mr Lelatisitswe reminded residents that large projects would need to go through the tendering process which might delay commencement, resulting in the failure to utilise the funds timeously and ultimately denying the sub-district developments.

He was responding to a question asked by the Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Joseph Mabe who had asked for clarity on how the fund was going to be utilised, saying they learnt it would be used to install street lights in Letlhakane.

The sub-district economic planner, Ms Batlhoki Kenosi explained that some decisions were made by senior management based on priority.

Ms Kenosi noted that other projects would be catered for through programmes such as Ipelegeng.

She stated that Members of Parliament had the final say on projects to be undertaken under the Constituency Development Fund.

An official from the MP’s office, Mr Golebilwemang Golebilwemang informed residents that  the Mosu-Thalamabele road would commence soon through the Economic Stimulus Programme. ENDS
