Stakeholder cooperation important for project

03 Oct 2017

Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Communications says the cooperation of stakeholders is important for the Charleshill/Ncojaane road construction to be completed on time and budget.

Mr Kabelo Ebineng said the project was meant to benefit and address transport challenges faced by those living in the area hence it was important for all stakeholders to work together in completing the project.

He said this during a recent tour to appreciate progress and address challenges which resulted in the project falling behind schedule.

Mr Ebineng said they had also wished to meet with the leadership of communities affected by the project and request them to pave way for the development and to cooperate with those involved in the project for it to be completed on time and budget.

He said the ministry would not condone delays hence they engaged stakeholders. Project contractors, Zac Construction site agent, Mr Albert Garikayi assured the permanent secretary that the project would be completed to the required standards, as they had all the required material and equipment to complete the project in the next 12 months.

Mr Garikayi said the only challenge they faced was ferrying water and aggregates since the area they got them from were far from the site.

He also cited labour as another challenge, saying most worked for a short period and disappeared without serving notice, but stated that management was prepared to address such issues.

Kgosi Raposo Moholo of Kole said the project was overdue.

He said the road was bad, damaged cars and caused accidents which claimed lives. ENDS
