Use constituency funds responsibly Guma
26 Sep 2017
MP for Tati East, Mr Guma Moyo has advised residents of Themashanga to use the constituency development fund responsibly for the benefit of their village.
Addressing a Kgotla meeting in Themashanga on September 25, he stated that government made a decision to allocate every constituency with P10 million for the development of projects in their respective constituencies.
He said the funds should be utilised well for priority projects that would benefit the community.
He further noted that this did not mean that government and councils would be halting developments.
The MP encouraged the youth to focus on establishing their own businesses instead of waiting for government to employ them.
He said Batswana should learn to be self-reliant adding that with the rainy season approaching people should prepare to go and plough.
Mr Moyo also encouraged residents to take up commercial farming so as to sell their produce and feed the nation.
He highlighted that there were opportunities to be explored in the district like commercial farming of sunflower which is in high demand.
The MP said Batswana should not depend on diamonds only because their sale depended on the global market performance which meant that when the market plummet diamond sales also fell.
Mr Moyo stated that he was aware of the water crisis situation in North East therefore suggesting that villages should take money from the constituency funds to buy tanks which Water Utilities would fill with water to supply villages.
Mr Moyo highlighted that the current pipeline distributing water from Ntimbale Dam was small and could not withstand the pressure which resulted in water rationing by Water Utilities Corporation.
He stated that government had requested funds from World Bank so as to replace the pipe.
Residents had complained of the water crisis and further requested government to construct a dam in the village for watering livestock.
Residents also complained that government programmes aimed at eradicating poverty were delaying in reaching them.
They further stated that the Youth Development Fund application forms were complicated hence requesting that they be simplified to cater for youth who did not reach the highest level of education. ENDS
