Molefhi urges students to seize chance
24 Sep 2017
Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Development, Mr Nonofo Molefhi has encouraged Ranokanyane Junior Secondary School students to seize every opportunity availed to them to study hard and change their lives for the better.
Speaking at the school’s prize giving ceremony on September 22, Mr Molefhi told students that their age mates in other countries were staying at refugee camps where they could not enjoy their right to education.
Minister Molefhi challenged students to seize learning opportunities and desist from destroying school property.
However, the minister commended some students, though small in number, for treating school property with the care it deserved.
He said unlike some schools in Nata that had been vandalised to dilapidation, Ranokanyane JSS was among the few schools still in good shape.
The minister commended students for this and also praised parents for instilling the spirit of ownership and discipline in their children.
The minister called on relevant stakeholders to assume their position in ensuring that the school succeeded not only academically, but also in moulding an all-rounder human being.
He noted that government spent huge funds in maintaining property
“Who will maintain all these buildings when funds have been depleted?” asked the minister, adding that Batswana students were still fortunate and urged them not to take the opportunity for granted.
He challenged students to study hard and surpass achievements set by their parents and their predecessors at the school.
The minister said it should be every students challenge to lift the bar above their predecessors, arguing that it would propel the school to shoot to the top academically.
To best performers, minister Molefhi preached against complacency, advising that the achievement should be the launching pad for even better results.
He also encouraged those not receiving awards to get inspired and emulate the success of their schoolmates.
On other issues, Mr Molefhi noted that President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama had tasked ministers and high ranking government officials to visit public schools and assess their needs with a view to improving their performances. ENDS
