Stop sending patients from pillar to post

02 Jul 2013

The Assistant Minister of Health, Mr Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri has called on medical doctors and nurses not to send patients to other medical facilities to collect drugs when they are not available in their stations.

Addressing kgotla meetings at Tsau and Sehithwa on June 29, Mr Matlhabaphiri said such practice had long been stopped. Mr Matlhabaphiri said instead of sending patients around, the medical officers should use government vehicles to collect the drugs from other medical facilities on behalf of the patients.

He also urged nurses to treat patients equally and with respects without looking at their physical appearance. Mr Matlhabaphiri said even though government had ordered that elders, disabled people and pregnant women should not queue for any government services, some officers had still not responded positively to the call.

“This should not be the case at all, elders, pregnant women and disabled people should not queue,” he said. Residents of both villages applauded the Ministry of Health for providing services despite lack of accommodation for officers.

They also asked the assistant minister to plead with the minister of agriculture to help them regarding destruction of their fields and the issue of not being able to sell their livestock. Ends
