11 Sep 2017

Volumes of spectators came to witness bikers trying to out do each other on a tight dusty course surrounding serowe at a show dubbed Mmabesi200 National off-road challenge.

The race attracted 55 riders who formed two classes of the 100km, 200km endurance races which some turned into a sprint, riding on motorcycles and quards, with the the chairperson of Serowe Administrative Authority, Mpho Keoreme signaling the start of the race for bikers.

The event’s communications officer, Tshegofatso Sentsho indicated that since this was their second year hosting the event, it has grown and gained more mileage and reputation as they have also extended their fan base.

He said they were pleased that all went well, adding that they were satisfied with the reception from the leadership and the tribal authority.

He said the off-road challenge was organised by Serowe Extreme bikers club in collaboration with Botswana Motor Sport, adding that since this was a league which began a month back, initially they had 60 riders who gained points towards the finals of the championship.

“Our team is affiliated to the Botswana Motor Sports and as a consequence we have been participating in the professional races throughout the country,” he noted.

Further, he noted that all affiliated clubs in a season had to host the championship race, hence the need to organise the Mmabesi200 National off-road challenge each year.

Sentsho explained that this was a community based initiative from Serowe with a noble concept of using sport tourism to grow and stimulate serowe economy.

He said they also intended to provide a platform to promote local businesses such as local eateries, hotels and hawkers to raise household income.

Vincent Crossby obtained position 1 while Lepsy Mosope won on the senior category for the bikes.

The quad section was won by the Noble brothers, being Zade and Ahmed. The ladies class was won by Janine Du-Toit. ENDS
