10 Sep 2017

Gaborone City mayor, Kagiso Thutlwe has thanked and appreciated football teams that participated in last month’s Mayor’s Cup.

Thutlwe thanked the teams during a press conference he addressed along with Spotkick representative, Tshepo Molwane in Gaborone where he handed prize money to the teams that participated in the tournament.

“We had to take time before handing prizes to the teams so that when we hand them, we deliver in time and precisely,” he said.   Thutlwe also thanked the teams for their cooperation in supporting charity.

Molwane said the Mayor’s Charity Cup has opened their eyes to many things.

“We managed for the first time to have three live games, and we promise as organisers to make the next cup a bigger and better tournament,” he said.

A representative from the four teams, Kabelo Moremong appreciated the opportunity accorded the teams, saying the cup created an opportunity to prepare for the coming BTC premiership season.

“Our intention is to continue being part of this cup as it gives us an opportunity to prepare our teams during pre-season,” he said.

Gaborone City Council had partnered with Spotkick to host the tournament in which Tafic Football Club, Extension Gunners, Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Sharps Shooting Stars participated.

Tafic and Gunners went home with P50 000 each while Mochudi Centre Chiefs walked away with P100 000 and the champions, Sharps Shooting Stars, pocketed  a whooping P200 000. ENDS
