School donates to fire victims

02 Jul 2013

Our Lady of the Desert Primary School in Francistown has donated blankets, toiletry and clothes worth P5 000 to two students whose homes were gutted by fire at Block 175 of the BDF Area S barracks early this year.

Botswana Defence Force’s Lt Colonel Mogomotsi Lekaukau said they were grateful and recognised the effort of the school. Lt Col Lekaukau said the donation did not only promote the existing relationship between BDF and the school, but it was also in line with the Vision 2016’s pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation.

He said the relationship between them and the school was fruitful as the school karate team, which trained with the BDF, had been doing well. The officer also said they received the goods with a renewed sense of hope and also mentioned that the doors were still open to anyone who wanted to donate.

Ms Koziba Robby, a guidance and counseling teacher at the school, said through the love of God they managed to give out. “We all know giving was started by the creator, the bible states that he gave generously his only son that we may be saved,” said Ms Robby.

She said as teachers, when they donated, they were teaching their students as the future leaders of tomorrow and enhancing the initiative of the President. Ms Robby said the secret of prosperity was giving and it should not only be seen as the responsibility of the government alone. She noted that they raised the money through various activities such as fun day, beauty contest and a variety of shows.

Ms Robby thanked teachers, children, school management and parents for making the occasion a success. ENDS
